Carnegie sponsors polar expedition for the second time – 150 years later

§Among the sponsors in 1872 was David Carnegie Jr, from the founding family Carnegie and another Carnegie profile Oskar Ekman, who successfully led Carnegie for 62 years.. And history repeats itself 150 years later. Carnegie is proud to be a sponsor of the Jubilee Expedition 2022.  Not only do we have an historical link to the Nordenskiöld expedition 150 years ago, but we also believe in the important mission of the expedition and are happy to support.  The founders of Carnegie had a true philanthropically mindset which has been carried on in the Carnegie DNA. Therefore, Carnegie has always been an active contributor to the society. In modern times Carnegie has among other things sponsored initiatives such as Carnegie Social Initiative, Carnegie Art Award, Ung Företagsamhet, Framtidens Entreprenör and SvD Affärsbragden.

The story about David Carnegie Jr and Oscar Ekman

In 1803 D. Carnegie & Co was registered as a firm in Gothenburg by a Scot named David Carnegie Sr, the company focused g on exports of iron and wooden goods. In 1836, David Carnegie Sr brought his nephew David Carnegie Jr into the firm D. Carnegie & Co. After just a few years David Carnegie Jr. became a partner and would prove to be a major driving force behind the company’s successful development. After a few years later in n 1841, David Carnegie Jr chose to return to Scotland and engaged his friend Oscar Ekman to lead the business in Gothenburg. Oscar Ekman would successfully run the company for 62 years.

When Carnegie becomes a bank

However, the company D. Carnegie & Co founded in 1803 did not engage in anything related to the banking industry and was more of a trading company.It was more than 100 years later Carnegie became a bank. It all started with a restructuring of the Carnegie firm in 1907, pushed by Karl Langenskiöld who had taken over from his late father in law, Oscar Ekman. The company was divided into two separate entities: Porterbryggeri AB D. Carnegie &Co, and Fastighets AB. D. Carnegie & Co, and in 1932, in parallel with the growing real estate business, Bankirfirman Langenskiöld was founded by Karl Langenskiöld’s son, Carl Gustaf Langenskiöld
