Carnegie adviser to McDonald's in the divestment of its Nordic operations

Carnegie has acted as exclusive financial adviser to McDonald’s in its divestment of its Nordic operations. The divestment includes a 20 year franchise agreement, allowing the purchaser the right to operate and open new McDonald’s branded restaurants in the Nordic countries. McDonald’s has selected Guy Hands as the new owner and operator of McDonald’s in Sweden, Denmark, Norway and Finland.

McDonald’s is one of the most recognised consumer brands in the world with unparalleled brand strength in the Informal Eating Out (IEO) restaurant industry and the brand has been recognised as one of the most valuable brands globally. McDonald’s is one of the world’s largest IEO restaurant chains with more than 36,000 restaurants in more than 100 countries.

McDonald's experiences significant success in the Nordics and is the clear IEO leader in the region. The history of McDonald's in the Nordics goes back to 1973 (start-up in Sweden) and the restaurants currently serve around 300 million customers per year. The Nordic footprint consists of more than 400 McDonald's branded restaurants, which are primarily operated by franchisees. In addition, McDonald's owns a significant amount of the restaurant properties.
