Today the names of the 17 Nordic artists that are shortlisted for the Carnegie Art Award 2012 – one of the world’s largest art awards – are made public. The major exhibition, that reflects what is happening right now within contemporary painting on the Nordic art scene, opens at the Stenersen Museum in Oslo coming autumn.

For the 2012 edition the Carnegie Art Award jury has sharpened the selection process by reducing the number of participating artist, aiming instead for a more extensive presentation of each one. Out of a total of 127 nominated artists the Jury for the Carnegie Art Award 2012 has selected 17 artists for the shortlist of the three awards and the scholarship for a young artist.

The award winners of the Carnegie Art Award 2012 will be announced after the jury’s second meeting at the end of August 2011. The winner will be awarded 1 million SEK (EUR 110.000), the runner-up 600,000 SEK (EUR 66.000) and the third-prize winner 400,000 SEK (EUR 44.000). The scholarship of 100,000 SEK (EUR 11.000) will go to a young artist. The exhibition will be inaugurated and the awards presented on 17 November at the Stenersen Museum in Oslo. The exhibition will continue to venues in Stockholm, Copenhagen and Helsinki.
The Jury
The jury, chaired by Tuula Arkio, Counsellor for Cultural Affairs, Helsinki, is made up of Gunnar J. Árnason, Philosopher and Lecturer at the Icelandic Academy of the Arts, Reykjavik; Mikkel Bogh, Rector of the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, Copenhagen; Stian Grøgaard, Professor in Art Theory, The Academy of Fine Art, Oslo National Academy of the Arts, and Ann-Sofi Noring, Co-Director, Museum of Modern Art, Stockholm. The international jury member is Isabel Carlos, Director, Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, Lisbon.
