During the exhibition Carnegie Art Award 2012 at Stenersenmuseet in Oslo visitors to the exhibition have had the opportunity to vote for their favourite among the participating artists.
We are happy to announce that Heikki Marila from Finland was the favourite of the Oslo audience. Congratulations!
Heikki Marila’s expressive paintings engage with a variety of themes. In large canvases he has reproduced details from religious subjects by 16th century painters including Albrecht Dürer and Matthias Grünewald. In recent years, Marila has once again let himself be influenced by the old masters. In his similarly monumental Flowers he has used his characteristically flowing, expressive style to create contemporary descendants of symbolically laden 17th century Dutch floral still-lifes, which take on a veritable abstract quality due to their giant format.
