Henriette Heise

Henriette Heise incorporates a variety of materials, along with several blogs and websites in her works, in which everything is part of a larger context. She has long been working with pockets and drawers, both thematically and conceptually. These represent private places where things are stored or hidden from the world. Pockets and Drawers, for instance, shows the inside of a trouser pocket with a key. By simply clicking on the key, the viewer can open a world of pockets containing a wide range of objects: a couple of acorns, a few folded banknotes, or just a bit of fluff. If you want to peek inside, the address of the work is pocketsanddrawers.net. In recent textile works installed in front of windows, the artist uses the variations in light and shadow to influence the perception of both the work and the exhibition space. Dreaming softens you and makes you unfit for daily work is a dreamy collage of old duvet covers that produce structures and patterns with the natural daylight from outside and the indoor lighting. In Darkness Machine the thick fabric shuts out the light which can only trickle through the holes of the seams and thus leaves the room in semi-darkness. With their subtle language, Heise’s poetic and intimate works explore the way we see and interpret the everyday images that make up our world.
