1st Prize Winner
Ulrik Samuelson was born in 1935 in Norrköping, Sweden, and lives in Stockholm. 1957-1961 he studied at the College of Fine Arts in Stockholm. Since the mid 60’s Samuelson has principally worked with installations built by allegorical objects and paintings, often with references to the history of art. During 1970-1978 Ulrik Samuelson worked as a professor in painting at the College of Fine Arts in Stockholm. At the end of the 80s he resumed the painting but has also continue working with larger project in public areas.
2nd Prize Winner
Nina Roos was born in 1956 in Porvoo, Finland, and lives in Helsinki. During 1983-1988 she studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Helsinki. When experimented with different materials she has through her characteristic paintings on acrylic glass found her own expression in which she endeavour to concretise a feeling or experience. At the moment Roos has a deputy professorship at the College of Fine Arts in Stockholm.
3rd Prize Winner
Torsten Andersson 1926-2009. During 1946-1950 he studied at the College of Fine Arts in Stockholm, and at the Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen. 1960-1966 he had a professorship at the College of Fine Arts in Stockholm. During many years, Torsten Andersson developed a most personal imagery. In his paintings the observer meets monochrome portrait of geometrical, abstract sculptures. In 1997 Torsten Andersson participated in the great exhibition at Louisiana in Humlebæk but has during the years been sparing with exhibit.
Scholarship
Jussi Niva was born in 1966 in Pello, Finland, and lives in Helsinki. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Helsinki 1984-1989. Niva interests in the optic interplay between light and colour, as well as the paintings relationship to the room and the observer. Recently a new work of art contained by eleven transparent glass paintings reflecting light and movement has opened in Vousaari underground station in Helsinki.
