Born 1963 in Lima, Peru. Lives in Nyborg, DK.
Milena Bonifacini’s abstract paintings have an inherent explosive quality that has literally extended beyond the frame in recent years, invading the room. In flowing installations, where painting has been allowed to take any conceivable form, canvases are combined with panels sawn into organic shapes that match the organic shapes in her paintings, patterned textiles, photographs and painterly sculptures. The amorphous and ornamental is a recurring element in both the individual works and in the installations as a whole. 6 Shelves, shown in the exhibition, consists of six standard storage shelves placed in the room and filled with what appears to be figures from her paintings, reproduced in three-dimensional form and put in a “Bonifacinian Archive”.
