Born 1967 in Väse, Sweden. Lives in Stockholm, SE.
Taking a singular story about a remarkable architectonic creation as her starting point, Kristina Jansson has produced two pairs of seductive and psychologically charged paintings, where one painting is actually a photo of a hand-painted negative image of a photo of an interior. The ostensibly impenetrable and strange architecture and puzzling interiors are taken from the story of Sarah Winchester, wife of the Winchester Rifle fortune heir. Devastated by the early death of her daughter and husband, and convinced that the spirits of all the victims of the weapons manufactured by the family business had finally taken their revenge, she is advised by a medium to go west and build a house for herself and the spirits according to their instructions. This complex building project went on day and night and took up all her time over the ensuing 40 years. Jansson has the ability to perpetually vary the style of her works according to their conceptual content, and these images are particularly spellbinding with their compact, suggestive and uncanny mood.
