Professor in Art Theory, the Academy of Fine Art, Oslo National Academy of the Arts
Stian Grøgaard was born in 1956. He is currently professor of art theory at the Academy of Fine Art, Oslo National Academy of the Arts. He has a background as an artist and trained as a painter at the same institution where he now is a professor. He also studied philosophy at the University of Oslo and wrote his dissertation on Immanuel Kant’s Kritik der Urteilskraft and on Edvard Munch. He has also written a number of essays on the history of aesthetics, on Derrida’s reading of Hegel, Wittgenstein’s Bemerkungen über die Farben, Marcel Duchamp and on Robert Smithson. Recent publications include Stian Grøgaard et al.: Øye for tid: Om video, kunst og virkelighet, (2004) Listening is Regressive, (2006), and together with Per Bj. Boym Stein Rønning, ( 2009).
