How do I apply to the Carnegie Art Award?
There is a nomination process that leads up to participation which means you can not apply to the Carnegie Art Award. Every other year, some thirty experts on Nordic contemporary art each nominate up to five artists. All nominated artists are invited to contribute up to five works each. Their works should have been produced during the past two years. The names of all artists are treated confidentially. The jury convenes twice biannually to select the group of participating artists, to compile the exhibition and select the Carnegie award winners. The focus of the Carnegie Art Award is painting, so all artists whose works in some way relates to painterly issues are welcome.

Who are the nominators?
The nominators include representatives of art museums and art schools, in addition to critics and other specialists on contemporary art in the Nordic countries. Nominators are appointed for one year. Their identities are withheld until the book is published, in which nominators are acknowledged if they so wish.

Who can participate in the Carnegie Art Award?
The Carnegie Art Award is aimed at artists who live in or are citizens of Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway or Sweden.

Who are selected to the Jury?
The composition of the jury is crucial, and its members are chosen on the strength of their qualifications. It is also desirable that several Nordic countries are represented. Members of the jury are replaced on a consecutive basis and a new member from outside the Nordic countries is invited for each new edition.

To which venues does the exhibition tour?
The biennial exhibition is shown in the Nordic countries. The exhibition tour starts in mid-autumn and ends approximately one and a half years later.

Can the same artist participate several times?
Yes, the nominators are welcome to propose artists that have participated previously.
